Well, well.... It's been quite a busy month here back at the ranch! It's my pleasure to announce what is definitively the best news to appear on danloomismusic.com yet..... the birth my son, Dylan Kai Davidson Loomis on July 16th!! He came out a big one, 8lbs 10oz and measuring in at 21 inches. Now, a month later, baby, mother and daddy are all in good health. And while mommy is losing weight at an incredible rate, baby is steadily gaining, up ot 11lbs 10oz already! (we suspect Daddy may be gaining too from all the time at home make big, delicious meals. But the doctors aren't monitoring him quite as closely, so this is tough to confirm).
As a nice little mazel tov, on the day of Dylan's birth I got a call from Albany to peform at the 2009 Albany Jazz Festival! What could I say but yes (that was literally about all I said, didn't have much time to talk right then!). This actually came at the perfect time as after a few year of working intensely with a few of my collaborative project, The Wee Trio and Spoke, I have recently brought my original quartet - The DLQ - back off into active rotation.
The idealogical catalyst came from a desire to be able to mix and match some of my favorite musicians on various gigs. To open up and have a fresh and surprising sense of improvisation on some of the classic repertoire from the DLQ, as well as many new songs that I've been writing and collecting of the past few years.
So this gig will be the perfect springboard to get the band back into action. We'll be joined by an incredible line-up, I really couldn't be more honored to be included. We'll perform on the same stage as Joe Lovano, Lizz Wright and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band (sadly not at the same time -- although that would be pretty hilarious). So if you're anywhere in the upstate area -- come on down. It promises to be an amazing day of music.
